Rather remarkably, all the riders who crashed on the opening lap of yesterday’s Liqui Moly Junior Cup races walked away unscathed, including championship contender Dominic Doyle who started the chain-reaction crash.
“I was just impatient,” Doyle said. “I didn’t want him (Rocco Landers, his championship rival) to get away and I just ran in too hot into that corner and ran off. It was just like I was trying to get it turned before I hit that curb so I could rejoin on that short little straightaway, but I couldn’t brake on the grass and as soon as I touched the front brake to try and stop myself from going into the traffic, the bike slid out from underneath me. I couldn’t do anything after that.”
Doyle led this morning’s warm-up session for today’s Liqui Moly Junior Cup race two, besting yesterday’s race winner Landers. Doyle went into yesterday’s race just four points down on Landers, but that deficit has now grown to 29 points heading into today’s race.
