American Racing’s Cameron Beaubier will line up on the fourth row for Sunday’s Australian Moto2 Grand Prix at Phillip Island with fellow Californian Joe Roberts one row behind him after the pair qualified 11th and 15th, respectively, on Saturday.

Beaubier’s rookie teammate Sean Dylan Kelly will start from the seventh row after qualifying 21st.

Beaubier’s best lap came in Q2 with his 1:33.006 just .773 of a second from pole position after going straight through to the second qualifying session from FP3.

Roberts, meanwhile, also went straight into Q2 with his best lap of 1:33.284 just a tick over a second from pole. The Italtrans Racing rider looked to have jumped to fifth on the timesheets late in the session but his best lap was cancelled due to a yellow flag.

“Good day with great feedback,” Roberts said in a team release. “Too bad the best lap was canceled. Tomorrow, I’ll have to give something more to make up positions, but the feeling is good, and I’m ready to run a good race.”

Beta Tools Speed Up’s Fermin Aldeguer earned pole position with his 1:32.233 just .073 of a second better than Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Augusto Fernandez. Aldeguer’s teammate Alonso Lopez completes the front row on his Boscoscuro, though the Spaniard will incur a long-lap penalty for knocking down Celestino Vietti in the first practice session of the weekend.

Saturday’s Q2 session was red flagged with 36 seconds to go as two geese ventured on to the racetrack.
