When Cory Ventura crashed his Disrupt Racing Suzuki GSX-R750 last May at Barber Motorsports Park during the Supersport Extended Race, besides Ventura and the other racers behind him, only the fans watching the race on the back straightaway of the track coming out of Turn 10 saw the incident. It wasn’t broadcast nor does any footage of the crash exist, but it’s certainly something that Ventura will never forget.
He suffered compound fractures of his left tibia and fibula that not only ended his 2023 season, but it is now jeopardizing his 2024 season, as well. With the MotoAmerica Championship looming large, Ventura had to make the difficult decision to have additional surgery due to continued complications from the injuries.
With financial assistance from Back On Track, the Rookies of ’79 Charity associated with MotoAmerica, Ventura has benefitted greatly, but his injuries have proven to be the biggest challenge yet for the Californian, who will turn 22 years old on the penultimate day of this month.
“A lot has happened since my crash at Barber last May,” Ventura said. “When it first happened, I thought it would be a quick turnaround with a couple surgeries and some rest time to let it heal so I could be back on the bike before the season was over. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Back On Track jumped in and helped connect my supporters to me with donations to get me back on the road to recovery.
“I have been through five surgeries with the most recent procedure happening earlier this month, which was unexpected. I was in the middle of gearing up for my 2024 campaign to come back from this injury when I got the call, and I decided to let the bone heal instead of having a setback. With this surgery happening so close to the season and me still waiting and hoping to return to full health, unfortunately, I will not be starting the season this year. I wouldn’t have been able to get through this without Back On Track, Disrupt Racing, and all my friends and family. I feel so lucky and blessed to have such amazing people behind me to help me through this ordeal.”
And so, we continue to wish Cory Ventura well, and we admire his determination to return to racing in the MotoAmerica Championship.
