Minnesota is affectionately known by the nickname “Land of 10,000 Lakes” and, if you’re keeping score at home, there are actually 11,842 lakes in the state of Minnesota, to be exact.
While we’re on the subject of numerology, there are well over 67,000 farms in Minnesota, and of those, 2,600 are dairy farms that produce more than one million gallons of milk, processed in over 30 dairy plants across the state and that generate $1.8 billion in milk sales annually. The well-known Land O’ Lakes brand was, in fact, founded by a group of Minnesota dairy farmers in 1921.
So, what does all this have to do with MotoAmerica? The answer is Danny Anderson.
Anderson is Chief Mechanic on the Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati team, and he is from Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. His parents Ole (pronounced “OH-lee”) and Kim still own and operate the farm where Danny grew up and where they previously had a herd of around 50 Holsteins that they milked twice every day.
This year, Anderson went home to the farm and his team’s big, red transporter met him there so he and the team could service the bikes and prep for this weekend’s MotoAmerica Superbikes at Brainerd event. Suddenly, the ubiquitous green-and-yellow John Deere signs and logos displayed around the farm were joined by Ducati logos and the brand’s iconic bright-red color scheme.
The garage attached to the farmhouse made a perfect “race shop” for the Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati team, and the huge Harvestore silos formed a picturesque, yet unusual, backdrop in front of the Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati team transporter. Meanwhile, Anderson built a new Ducati Panigale V4 R Superbike for Herrin to race this weekend.
Anderson’s mom and dad have been to Brainerd International Raceway to see Danny and root for his team, and this year, his dad and a friend are planning to be at the track on Sunday.
Danny’s dad is never able to stay too long at Brainerd, though. The farm constantly needs tending to because, as the saying goes, a farmer’s work is never done. Same thing with a Chief Motorcycle Mechanic’s work.
